I'm not sure if this article is more about La Barbie getting caught, or about a song I'd like you guys to listen to. They kind of relate (well, not really, but whatever).

Recently, drug lord Edgar Valdez Villareal, also known as 'La Barbie', was arrested. The first thing that struck me is just how handsome this guy is, and that he has a pretty cute smile (considering he's handcuffed and put on display for the reporters). He got his nickname due to the fact that he has blond hair and fair complexion. See this video on CNN.

Ok... to this song... it's from Marcy Playground - I'm sure you remember these guys from their song 'Sex and Candy' back in 1997 (as well as their lesser known 'Saint Joe On The School Bus'). Marcy Playground came out with a new CD in 2009, and holy fuck, their last track - Down the Drain - is fucking incredible. I've listened to it 100 times in a row, I think.

Anyhow, the beginning of the song made me think of La Barbie.

I look forward to promoting the amazing work that Anthony is doing. His goal is to raise at least $3,000! After flying all the way out to help the community in California, USA I hope that all of us do everything that we can to help him reach his goal and even go beyond it! Please, spread the word and support Anthony for this amazing volunteer work he is doing to help people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in California, USA!

I grew up believing that baseball players are made from magic... and I still do. Who hasn't seen Roger Clemens pitch... well... you're online so there's no excuse: you can watch him pitch now on YouTube or any great sports site. When Roger is pitching, he's doing it for the game; we do it for the spectating (which is fine).

So all of a sudden Roger Clemens is up for something that... hmm... I don't know... why him... anyhow I hope and pray that all those who watch them instant replays of seeing Clemens pitch will know that there is a human there... and a very incredibly talented one... and cute over the years... gawky sometimes... like all of us... but still a human under this amazing star. He is human... and a star... and a baseball player.

I watched baseball, played it a bit, and followed my winning teams the Expos right up until a strike... this was like 1994... and then the Expos moved south so Montreal has no more baseball team... so I follow championships since that is all I time for these days... and Clemens' name has often been in championships.

He's human... like everyone else... so that is how we should treat him. Follow the stories on CNN since they do the best on covering the truth of the matter, as well as the human aspect to it all.

Wanna Run a Bear Site? Share, RSS, Tags, Websites, Newsletter
Friday, August 20, 2010

I guess it depends on how you want to look at life - either as a half-empty glass or half-full...

For the past 11 years, I've been working on Bear websites and one of my jobs has been doing Bear news. I have done my best at mentioning new Bear sites, however it's hard for me not to notice all of the Bear sites that have disappeared over the past decade. With the net, it's impossible to keep track of all the sites that come and go; one day your favourite site is there, the next day it's gone.

But just like extinction; when one site disappears another one takes its place, so with that in mind, I don't think we'll ever be short on Bear sites. However it is kind of sad to see some cool sites just 'go'... without a word nor warning. Most of the time, people who run these sites realize at some point that running a 'good' website is actually a fulltime job, however trying to make a fulltime living from a site - or more precisely - a 'Bear' site - is really tough to almost impossible.

As for myself, I have come to appreciate just how much is involved in running a site. Also, working on a website is like watching the grass grow, especially since you sit in front of your own site all day, plugging away at it, only to see minimal inflection in traffic. And of course, don't expect any love from the other sites because more often than nought these other sites will see you as a competitor if anything.

if you plan on making a Bear site - know that - nobody is going to care about your site more than yourself, and nobody is going to make your shit important aside from yourself. Sure it's great to think that there is a Bear community out there; that there is this entity known as a Bear culture, but don't expect this Bear community to embrace your website simply because you have the word 'Bear' in it. That's not how it works. Trust me, I know.

All this to say - there was a cool Spanish site called BCNBears (articles), a profile site, and one day it was gone. It was quite popular, or I think it was, however its omission from the net has not affected the net. And unfortunately, nobody except the webmaster cares that this site has gone, and I bet you that some guys who run Bear profiles sites are actually happy another Bear site has bitten the bullet (this way lessening the competition). As for myself - I'm still trying to hold onto my initials reasons as to why I started working on Bear sites in the first place: and that was (and is) to try and create that virtual Bear culture - to have Bear sites work together and not against each other, however I'm just an idealist, but fuck anyone who tries to change my ways of thinking.

I've said it before - if you want to create a site - make sure you do it with the full right knowledge that you're on your own, yet always keep your doors open to opportunities and don't burn bridges. Bears - to me - means maturity... mature men, and that's why, 11 years later, I'm still doing what I'm doing, because I like the thought of man as a mature being, and I still hope that us mature men known as Bears will be able to come together, and what better place than the net to come together, right? The net is truly our global village on Mother Earth.

I know that a site like PlanetBears is a small site, and what I do - Bear news - is relatively a small contribution in comparison to the eternal and limitless light that shines throughout this universe - but no matter how small my part is, PlanetBears partakes in this universal light nonetheless, and while you work on your site, keep that same thought... that we're all doing a part to make up the whole.

BearWorld the Movie... or more precisely the documentary movie... is slanted for summer 2012, and since the last time we posted an article about this interesting looking movie, the trailer was simply a bird's eye view of Mother Earth. Well head on over to the site today and check out not just one new trailer, but 2, both filled with Bears, music and philosophical musings of what a Bear is all about.

The following is their synopsis taken from their site: "BearWorld is a movie that illustrates the Bear community and the differences around the world. Originally the Bear community was created to gather gays that mainstream gay culture did not accept because they did not fit a particular physical stereotype.

While this movement has evolved over the last twenty years and has become one of the most substantial in the LGBT community, there are still some debates inside the community about what a Bear really is. To add to the problem, private companies are creating a manufactured hybrid of a 'hairy mainstream gay' and imposing it on the LGBT community for their own marketing purposes and creating a whole new stereotype.

For the next two years, our crew will be gathering information from the Bear community around the world get a clear picture on what it means to be a Bear. We will try to get a definitive answer to the question, 'What is a Bear?'. If not, we will at least get an understanding of what it means to be one".

A long time ago, our ancestors roamed the hills wearing only polar bear skins while calling out to spirits in the wild, all the while waiting for the great Bear shaman to come and purify this land... uhm... ok, so I'm getting carried away with the whole spiritual theme thing here, however this is probably a good time to mention about Bearapalooza's upcoming Spirit of the Bear which will be taking place from October 1st thru the 3rd at Roy's Hideaway in Collins, Georgia. As always they have a super line-up of artists that will blow your socks off with their music

"Spirit of the Bear: a harvest of brotherhood, music, spirits, flesh and fur...".

Ok so the plot is as lame as llama's spit, but hey, it's a game with a big Bearish guy who swat flies, it's free, so just how much more can you ask for in life...? Back to the plot: Pedro was once popular but he lost his address book to a virus so now he's alone catching flies. How many flies can you catch right alongside with Pedro? Give it a shot. I got up to 77, but I only tried 2 times because I have a life and cannot help Pedro catch flies all day. How many can you get? Let me know. Thanks to Bearotic for this cool-lame game.
